Biden Returns Swinging At Trump

Former President Joe Biden returned to the spotlight with a fiery speech blasting Donald Trump — but the real story may be what his reappearance reveals about a Democratic Party still searching for direction.

Quick Take

  • Biden called Trump “a loser” and accused him of “corruption on a scale never seen before in American history” at a Maryland Democratic fundraiser on June 27, 2026.
  • Biden made specific claims — including that Trump made “billions” in office — but offered no financial records, contracts, or documents to back them up.
  • Democrats are visibly split, with internal battles over progressive influence and impeachment strategy undermining any unified message against Trump.
  • A new poll shows 92% of Americans — left and right — agree that corruption in government is a serious problem, yet neither party has delivered real accountability.

Biden’s Big Return — and Bigger Claims

Joe Biden took the stage at the Maryland Democratic Party’s 2026 Fight Back & Win Gala in Hanover on June 27, delivering a sharp attack on President Trump. Biden called Trump “a loser” and accused him of “corruption on a scale never seen before in American history.” He claimed Trump “has made billions since assuming the presidency” and labeled it “brazen, blatant corruption.” He also accused Trump of the “deliberate distortion and destruction of NATO” and of favoring Russian President Vladimir Putin over U.S. allies.[3]

Biden went further, listing what he called Trump’s “vanity projects” — remodeling the White House East Wing to add a ballroom, putting his name on the Kennedy Center, and hiring personal pool staff to maintain the White House reflecting pool. He also accused Trump of wanting to use taxpayer money to pay back people who stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, saying they “attacked the police and tried to execute his own vice president.”[2] These are serious charges. But Biden offered no financial records, no contracts, and no government documents to support any of them.

Strong Words, Thin Evidence

The core problem with Biden’s speech is the gap between what he said and what he proved. The “billions” profit claim comes with no tax filings, no audit reports, and no breakdown by source or time period.[3] The vanity project claims carry no contract numbers, no approval dates, and no budget figures. The accusation about paying January 6 participants comes with no proposed legislation or budget documents to point to. Strong accusations demand strong evidence — and none was provided here.[2]

That does not mean the underlying concerns are wrong. The Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan legal policy group, has noted that Trump has “intensified and normalized” the blending of personal business interests with presidential power in ways that go beyond prior norms.[14] Harvard Law School anti-corruption expert Matthew Stephenson has said the Trump administration “flagrantly disregards traditional norms regarding the separation of public and private functions.”[16] These are credible voices raising real concerns — but they are not the same as proof of the specific dollar amounts or actions Biden named.

The Bigger Picture: A Party and a Country Frustrated

What may matter more than Biden’s speech is what it says about where the Democratic Party stands right now. Internal divisions are real. Fox News reported that Democrats are “fractured amid growing influence of Democratic socialists,” with uncertainty about impeachment strategy and a sharp leftward shift that is alienating moderate voters. Republican Representative James Comer called recent Democratic leadership losses “a big slap in the face.” The party is struggling to find a clear, unified voice — and Biden’s return did not resolve that.

Meanwhile, a new poll found that 92% of Americans — Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike — believe corruption in government is a massive problem.[18] That number cuts across party lines. People on both the left and right are tired of watching elected officials protect their own power while ordinary citizens struggle. Biden’s speech may have fired up a fundraising crowd, but it did little to address that shared frustration. Throwing accusations without evidence is exactly the kind of political theater that makes most Americans distrust both parties even more. The country deserves less performance and more accountability — from everyone in power.
