NYC Mayor Adams Calls For Change In Migrant Laws

Embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams apparently is waffling on his city’s rollout of the red carpet for illegal migrants. At a Monday night town hall meeting, video suggested the mayor is questioning the city’s “sanctuary” status and welcoming response to border crossers.

A video of Adams answering questions was posted on X, formerly Twitter, by independent photographer Leeroy Johnson.

The mayor called for a modification to the sanctuary city law. After promoting giving illegal migrants the ability to work on arrival, he touched on a topic that has garnered national attention in recent weeks.

The disproportionately high rate of violent acts committed by those in the country illegally.

Adams told the crowd, “But these small numbers that have committed crimes, we need to modify the sanctuary city law that if you commit a felony or violent act we should be able to turn you over to ICE and have you deported.” The crowd erupted in applause.

He added that these illegals have the “right” to live in New York City, but they should not be committing crimes while there.

For Adams, this is a crisis of his own making. After he and his predecessors welcomed illegal border crossers from the safety of being hundreds of miles from the southern border, now these misguided actions bear bitter fruit for city residents.

Thus the about face by the Democratic mayor.

Adams commended his police force for operating during the migrant challenge but complained he is hampered by federal and state law. He said officers found migrants were committing robberies using mopeds for snatch and grab criminal acts.

When police cracked down on illegal mopeds they found that many of the migrants also had guns and drugs.

The Democrat said he often encounters people who ask him why he doesn’t stop the migrant buses from Texas and elsewhere from delivering illegals to the city. He is further questioned why the city provides housing to border crossers and doesn’t deport criminals.

His answer to each is the same. “It’s against the law, I can’t.”

But what is well within his power is to turn his back on the foolish sanctuary city status that is crippling the Big Apple. It was all show and flowery words when the migrant crisis was on the other side of the country.

It’s something wholly different when it’s being delivered to your doorstep.
