New Jersey Governor Says State Can’t Handle More Illegal Aliens

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) has declared that his state cannot take any more illegal aliens, noting that there is no more room and the state lacks the resources necessary to take in illegals — despite his campaign pledge to create a welcoming “sanctuary state.”

Murphy made the announcement after the Biden administration revealed that New Jersey’s Atlantic City International Airport is on a list of 11 places targeted for shipments of illegal aliens as part of a desperate attempt to alleviate the massive influx of illegal aliens that flooded into nearby New York City over the past year.

The Democrat governor put a stop to the Biden administration’s plan, adding that the entire state is off limits to their shipments of illegals.

Murphy made the comments during a segment titled “Ask Gov. Murphy” on local news outlet News 12 on August 31.

“I don’t see any scenario where we’re going to be able to take in a program in Atlantic City or frankly elsewhere in the state,” Murphy said, according to the outlet. “You need scale, enormous amount of federal support, resources that go beyond anything that we can afford. Putting everything else aside, I just don’t see it. I would suspect that that will continue to be the case.”

The New Jersey governor also revealed that the Biden administration hadn’t even taken the time to discuss the plan to force more illegal aliens on his state.

However, back in 2017, Murphy insisted during his campaign for governor that he would make New Jersey a “sanctuary state” — telling Politico that taking in illegal aliens was about “the goodness of America” and righting the “nation’s moral compass.”

During the October 2017 gubernatorial debate, Murphy attacked his opponent for opposing illegal immigration — vowing that his administration would make New Jersey “a sanctuary — not just city — but state.”

Meanwhile, Murphy’s new anti-illegal immigration stance — which only applies to his own state, as he has not changed his position about allowing illegals to enter the U.S. as a whole — is being echoed by New Jersey politicians on both sides of the aisle.

According to local news outlet The Press of Atlantic City, the Republican mayor of Egg Harbor Township and the Democrat mayor of Atlantic City have both spoken out against the Biden administration sending illegal aliens into their state. Standing together at a press conference, the two Atlantic County mayors warned the Biden administration not to send any illegals — declaring that there are not enough resources to care for them.

“Egg Harbor Township does not have the capacity to handle this,” said Egg Harbor Republican Mayor Laura Pfrommer. “We do not have the social service programs to handle this. Our residents are scared of this.”

Democrats Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. agreed, stating: “What you see here is people crossing party lines and putting the greater good above the party.”

The Atlantic County Mayors Association, which is made up of members of both parties, has also expressed opposition to the Biden administration’s plan. The association’s president, Absecon Mayor Kim Horton (D), plans to send a resolution opposing the plan.

“Lawmakers need to work together to make comprehensive immigration policies that protect our towns and communities,” Horton told reporters, according to Breitbart News. “I’m happy that we are collectively up here, Democrats, Republicans, independents. We are a united front.”

The official Twitter account for the New Jersey Project, a union of parents from all over the state that have vowed to fix New Jersey, sarcastically celebrated Murphy’s declaration in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter — writing: “He is finally being honest. That’s crazy.”
