Amid an unprecedented crisis at the southern border, Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently criticized President Joe Biden’s failure to close the border, saying “The president needs a backbone to make sure that he enforces the immigration laws that are already on the books.” This did not sit well with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas
“Couldn’t be more wrong, couldn’t be more wrong. As a matter of fact, former President
Trump tried to close the border and it was enjoined in the courts and never saw the light of day.”
Mayorkas then went after Abbot for his criticism of President Biden’s handling of the border crisis.
He specifically attacked Abbott’s leadership style, as well as his lack of communication with other governors and officials tasked with solving the crisis at the border.
“This coming from an individual who is purposefully refusing to coordinate, communicate, collaborate with other officials, and trying to wreak havoc in other cities and states across the country. That is not a model of governance and he couldn’t be more wrong.”
But regardless of who is pointing the finger, the fact remains that a record number of illegal immigrants has crossed into the United States since Joe Biden took office.
In addition to that, border patrol agents arrested the greatest number of illegal immigrants who have criminal records in 2023, than at any time in the United States’ history.
The number of illegal immigrants arrested since President Biden took office is shocking. To put things into perspective, the number of people crossing the southern border illegally exceeds the population of many states several times over.
There are only a few states with a population bigger than the number of illegal immigrants coming into the country. Those states are: California, Texas, Florida, New York,
Pennsylvania, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia and North Carolina.
But despite all the arrests, no one has stepped up to take charge of the border. And until someone does, crimes like what tragically happened to University of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, will continue happening to innocent people.
According to some, President Biden, DHS Secretary Mayorkas, and Governor Abbott all share some degree of culpability in the problem
