Chinese Nationals Encountered At Southern Border Reaches New Peak

The illegal immigration crisis has been exacerbated daily under President Joe Biden. As such, it was recently revealed that the number of Chinese nationals who have unlawfully crossed the southern border has reached a new peak, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.

The New York Post reported that the number of Chinese nationals at the southern border from January 2023 to September 2023 had reached a new record high, with roughly 24,000 having been encountered, marking a dramatic increase from the year prior. Since then, the number of Chinese nationals at the border has skyrocketed.

The U.S. Border Patrol reported that in November 2023 alone, officials encountered nearly 5,000 Chinese illegal immigrants crossing the southern border from Mexico. Federal data shows that such an eyebrow-raising figure is higher than the number of Chinese unlawful migrants apprehended at the border from 2007-2019.

Concerns over the growing surge in Chinese nationals at the southern border have been attributed to their alleged association with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

In June 2023, House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) said that some of the Chinese citizens at the southern border had ties to the CCP and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

“In terms of the verification that the individuals released into the United States have ties to the PLA came from a sector chief and I’ll leave it with that at this point. We have a classified briefing coming up in the very near future,” Green said at the time.

U.S. journalist Gordon Chang attributed the surge of Chinese nationals at the border to the difficult livelihood of many in China because of the CCP.

“Right now in China there’s extreme pessimism, especially among young people in their 20s about the future of their country, so it’s understandable that they’re leaving and they’re trying to get into the United States. And, you know, these are people who are relatively middle class, so it shows you the problems in Chinese society are severe,” Chang told the Daily Caller.

“When I first saw that the surge in Chinese migrants, that’s the thought that came to my mind that these are either Ministry of State Security agents or Chinese military, who are coming to this country to commit acts of sabotage against the U.S.,” Chang added.
