Jewish Electorate Expresses Discontent with Trump

A recent survey by the Jewish Electorate Institute (JEI), conducted April 15–18, 2025 by pollster Mark Mellman, found that 72% of American Jewish voters disapprove of President Donald Trump’s performance in office. Only 24% expressed support. The results reflect a continuation of dissatisfaction that has persisted throughout his political career.

According to Jewish Insider, 72% of those surveyed also believe the United States is heading in the wrong direction under Trump’s leadership. Mellman stated, “American Jewish voters are deeply distressed about the direction in which Donald Trump is taking the country and oppose many of his key policies.”

Divided Opinions on Antisemitism Handling

While Trump’s overall approval is low among Jewish voters, his handling of antisemitism shows a more nuanced response. The same JEI poll indicates that 31% approve of his approach to antisemitism, while 56% disapprove. That marks a notable improvement from a 71% disapproval in 2018.

This variation is even more pronounced across religious denominations. Orthodox Jews, in particular, tend to support Trump’s efforts in this area, while Conservative, Reform, and unaffiliated Jews report significantly higher disapproval rates. Among voters under 30, 33% approve of his handling of antisemitism compared to 52% who disapprove, illustrating a generational split.

Policy Decisions Face Strong Opposition

Jewish voters express significant disapproval of many specific Trump policies. One of the most opposed is his executive order enabling deportations without court hearings—71% of respondents are against it, according to a Newsmax report.

In addition, his stance on tariffs, budget cuts, and efforts to penalize law firms have found little favor among the Jewish electorate. The collective backlash against these policies underscores a broader disillusionment with his leadership and policy direction.

An Evolving Political Landscape

Despite signs of improvement in select areas like antisemitism, the overall mood among Jewish voters remains skeptical. As Trump continues to campaign and push policy changes, this bloc may prove increasingly pivotal in shaping electoral outcomes—particularly if disapproval remains high.

The Jewish electorate’s demands for both policy shifts and a new leadership tone indicate a broader realignment. Whether or not Trump can recover this lost ground remains uncertain, but the data suggests his standing with Jewish Americans is at a critical low point.
