CBZ Management, which runs several apartment complexes in Aurora, Colorado, confirmed that the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang has seized control of their properties. The company, which took over in 2019, says that violence and crime have spiked since the gang’s arrival, leaving staff and tenants in fear.
One of the most alarming incidents occurred in 2023 when a CBZ employee was beaten by gang members after refusing to accept a bribe. Since then, threats have been made against other employees, and illegal occupants have moved into vacated apartments.
CBZ contacted local law enforcement and eventually confirmed with federal agencies that the Tren de Aragua gang is active on their properties. However, CBZ claims they have received little help, with officials stating that their situation is just part of a larger national problem.
As the gang’s control tightened, CBZ appealed to local officials for help, even suggesting federal intervention, but their requests were met with accusations of code violations. Meanwhile, tenants have fled out of fear for their safety.
Councilwoman Dani Jurinsky has been one of the few officials to assist, helping a tenant and collecting evidence of the gang’s activities. CBZ has since criticized the media and local government for failing to adequately address the crisis or provide meaningful assistance.
