Trump’s Swearing-In Relocated Indoors Due To Security Threats And Severe Weather

President-elect Donald Trump’s January 20 inauguration has been moved indoors to the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, sharply reducing the number of attendees to about 2,000 people. The decision follows mounting security threats and freezing temperatures forecasted for Washington, D.C.

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies announced that most ticket holders would no longer be allowed to attend. The committee encouraged visitors to attend alternative indoor events to watch the swearing-in ceremony.

“While we know this is difficult for many attendees, we strongly suggest people who are in Washington for the event attend other indoor venues of their choice to watch the inauguration,” the committee advised.

FBI Director Christopher Wray said there are no specific threats to the inauguration but warned that the security environment remains volatile. Wray reassured the public that law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to safeguard the event.

Trump also cited extreme cold weather as a key reason for moving the event indoors. Forecasts predict lows of 12°F with even colder wind chills. Trump emphasized that protecting the safety of attendees and security personnel was his top priority.

The inaugural parade and official celebrations have been moved indoors to Capital One Arena, where the public can safely watch a live stream of the swearing-in.

This adjustment makes Trump’s ceremony the first indoor presidential inauguration since Ronald Reagan’s in 1985, which was similarly relocated due to extreme weather.
