President Donald Trump has signed an executive order forming a task force to root out anti-Christian discrimination in government, putting Attorney General Pam Bondi in charge of the effort. The announcement, made at the National Prayer Breakfast, underscores Trump’s commitment to protecting religious freedoms.
The task force will be responsible for identifying government policies that unfairly target Christians, with a particular focus on the Department of Justice, the IRS, and the FBI. Trump accused these agencies of being weaponized against religious Americans under previous administrations and pledged that his team would ensure such abuses never happen again.
During his speech, Trump pointed to instances where the government cracked down on religious Americans, including church closures during the pandemic and the Justice Department’s prosecutions of pro-life activists. He stated that Christians would no longer be treated as second-class citizens in their own country.
Trump’s executive order also calls for the formation of a commission on religious liberty, which will develop additional protections for faith-based groups. He further announced the creation of a White House Faith Office to ensure that religious organizations have a direct line to the administration.
Kelly Shackelford, a leading advocate for religious rights, praised the initiative, saying, “We are ready to stand with President Trump to ensure that the religious liberty of every American is safe and secure.” The move has been widely welcomed by conservatives who have long called for action against anti-Christian policies.
The Trump administration is continuing to advance policies aimed at restoring religious freedom, rolling back government overreach, and preventing federal agencies from engaging in actions that discriminate against Christian organizations and individuals.
