President-elect Donald Trump has voiced strong concerns over reports of unidentified drones spotted across the country, calling for immediate action to address the issue. Trump suggested the drones should be shot down if the government cannot explain their presence.
“Mystery Drone sightings all over the Country. Can this really be happening without our government’s knowledge,” Trump wrote on Friday. “I [don’t] think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, [shoot] them down!”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security addressed the reports in a joint statement, confirming no evidence of a national security or foreign threat at this time. The agencies also revealed that many of the reported sightings are likely manned aircraft operating lawfully.
The Federal Aviation Administration has responded by issuing temporary flight restrictions over areas in New Jersey, including Trump’s golf club in Bedminster. The restrictions were extended to December 20 as authorities investigate further. The FAA emphasized its commitment to safe drone operations and warned of fines and other penalties for unlawful activity.
White House national security spokesperson John Kirby noted that President Biden has tasked officials with reviewing the matter. However, Kirby expressed hesitation about Trump’s suggestion to shoot down drones, citing concerns about safety and the lack of definitive information.
The reports have sparked widespread concern and frustration. As investigations continue, the call for government transparency and decisive action remains at the forefront of public discourse.
