Some Republicans Working Against Jordan As Speaker Of The House

A new report released by NBC says several Republicans are working against Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-OH) and his bid for the speaker of the House seat. The Republicans mentioned in the report were not mentioned by name.

On Sunday, Democrat House Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) confirmed that several Republicans are meeting with Democrats behind closed doors. The topic of the discussions was not only to find a better option for the Speaker of the House position but also to ensure Jordan would not take the position.

Jeffries stated, “There are informal conversations that have been underway. When we return to Washington tomorrow, it’s important to begin formalizing those discussions.”

Jeffries said, “It’s time to end the Republican civil war so we can get back to doing the business of the American people. And we as House Democrats are committed to finding that bipartisan path forward meaningfully.”

Many Americans are concerned about how the temporarily filled speaker of the House seat will affect several upcoming issues. One of the main concerns is funding for the war in Israel with Hamas.

Without someone permanent in the speaker seat, there may not be a way to move forward with funding or spending budgets. It should be noted that the current spending stopgap only gave 45 days before another government closure becomes imminent.

Jordan believes he can win over the Republicans against him and secure the vote for speaker. Only five Republicans need to vote against Jordan to keep him from the speaker seat.

There is a temporary speaker of the House, Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC). McHenry can vote and make decisions until a new speaker takes over.

Jordan does have his fair share of supporters. One of the prominent supporters is Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). Paul has thrown his open support behind Jordan and has encouraged others to do so. The vote is set for Tuesday.
