Schiff Announces Run For Feinstein’s Senate Seat

As people continue to question elderly Sen. Diane Feinstein’s (D-CA) mental fitness for office, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has announced his decision to run to take her seat in 2024.

The primary for Feinstein’s Senate seat is already shaping up to be crowded — as Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) has already announced her intention to run, and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) is also expected to bid for the position.

There will also be more contenders from within California, as Breitbart News reports: “Many members of Congress from California, including state House and Senate lawmakers, will also make a run for the seat, making it a crowded primary where only the top two vote-getters will continue on to the general election in November 2024.”

The crowded primary field could potentially pressure 89-year-old Feinstein to retire, as the aging senator has not yet announced whether she will be seeking reelection. On Wednesday, Feinstein said that she plans to make her final decision in the coming months.

In a video announcing his decision to run, Schiff referenced his previous position as the leader of the impeachment effort against former President Donald Trump — continuing to attack the former president.

“I’ve always believed that what’s right matters, that the truth matter, and that decency matters, and when a dangerous demagogue tried to undermine democracy, I wasn’t about to let him,” Schiff said in the announcement video.

The video makes it clear that Schiff intends to focus much of his campaign on the supposed “attacks” he has received from “MAGA extremists,” as well as his efforts during the impeachment trial, where he openly lied to the American people on numerous occasions.

Meanwhile, Schiff has been especially frustrated in recent days, as his appointment to the House Intelligence Committee was rejected by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) — who noted the California Democrats’ lies as part of the reasoning behind blocking Schiff’s appointment.

During recent comments, McCarthy pointed out that Schiff “openly lied to the American public. He put America for four years through an impeachment that he knew was a lie at the same time we had Ukraine, at the same time we had Afghanistan collapse. Was that the role of the Intel Committee? No.”

The House Speaker also recently clapped back at reporters who attempted to defend Schiff and Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), whose appointment to the House Intelligence Committee was also rejected by McCarthy.
