Rubio Unhappy With Intelligence Report Dismissing ‘Havana Syndrome’

On Thursday, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) called out a release from the intelligence community alleging that a strange illness afflicting diplomates dubbed “Havana Syndrome” was not created by a foreign enemy.

“Something happened here and just because you don’t have all the answers, doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. I will not accept that all these reported cases are just coincidences and I will continue to work on this issue until we receive real explanations,” Rubio, vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, said in a press release.

Rubio’s message comes a day after several federal agencies, including the CIA, declared there are no foreign adversaries who possess the technology required to bring the neurological symptoms described by more than 1,500 diplomats in 96 countries since 2016.

A group of experts reportedly found in 2022 that the troubling symptoms may be occurring as a result of an external energy force, arguing that a foreign power might be utilizing “pulsed electromagnetic energy” to purposely harm people. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine agreed with the analysis, which found that “directed, pulsed radio frequency energy appears to be the most plausible mechanism in explaining these cases.”

Rubio’s release expressed doubts about the conclusions by groups such as the CIA, stating, “I am concerned that the Intelligence Community (IC) effectively concluded that U.S. personnel, who reported [Anomalous Health Incidents] (AHI) symptoms, were simply experiencing symptoms caused by environmental factors, illness, or preexisting conditions and is potentially rushing to a conclusion while a substantial number of questions remain.”

“The Senate Intelligence Committee will continue our ongoing independent review on AHIs and take steps to ensure that those officers affected by AHIs are receiving immediate and comprehensive care as required by law,” concluded Rubio.
Rubio’s letter does not mark the first time he has expressed concerns over American foreign policy. In 2022, the Florida Senator notably asked Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland if Ukraine has biological or chemical weapons. She essentially answered yes, indicating that there are concerns about Ukraine’s “biological research facilities” being raided by Russia.
