A handful of House Republicans have offered a resolution to award former President Donald Trump the Congressional Gold Medal the country’s oldest and highest expression of public gratitude for distinguished contributions. The effort led by Florida Representative Anna Paulina Luna faces an uphill battle in Congress.

The resolution cites Trump’s “exceptional leadership” but does not mention his social media posting or reality television career.
Each Congressional Gold Medal is unique, cast by the U.S. Mint and requires Congress to pass a specific law to create it.
Getting the appropriate House and Senate committees to consider an awardee requires supermajority support in both chambers, making it highly unlikely Trump will receive the honor.

“Under his leadership, America was re-established as a respected global power, and the world was safer.
It's time we give him recognition for it.”

Trump changed everything. Before the former president took office, Republicans had a losing record and were on a losing trajectory in all future federal elections. He changed the party from a group of unapproachable neoconservatives pitching libertarian nonsense to a party that has weathered the demographic tides expected to drown the party. After former President George W. Bush’s term in office, Republicans were looked at as a bad brand. But Trump changed all of that, leaving Democrats and RINOs infuriated.
