Rep. Mark Green Slams Biden’s Amnesty Plan As ‘An Affront To The Rule Of Law’

Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), the Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s recent amnesty initiative, describing it as “an affront to the rule of law.” Green’s condemnation follows Biden’s decision to grant “parole amnesty” to approximately 550,000 illegal immigrants married to U.S. citizens who have been residing in the country for at least ten years.

Green expressed his concerns that this policy undermines legal immigration processes. “By allowing otherwise inadmissible aliens to remain in the country indefinitely through a ‘parole-in-place’ sleight of hand, and to receive generous, taxpayer-funded benefits, this president is sending a loud and clear message to any would-be border crosser that the door is not only wide open — there’s a welcome mat,” he said.

Lora Ries, the Heritage Foundation’s Director of the Border Security and Immigration Center, echoed Green’s sentiments. “Despite being intended for use in extraordinary circumstances only, Biden and Mayorkas have warped the parole statute beyond recognition,” she stated, emphasizing that the statute was not meant for such broad application.

Biden’s decision also follows the administration’s dismissal of asylum proceedings for approximately 350,000 migrants, which Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) criticized as a “covert mass amnesty program.” Hawley pointed out that these migrants are now no longer required to check in with authorities and can seek other legal status options.

The president’s policies come amid what many view as the most severe illegal immigration crisis in U.S. history. Since Biden took office, authorities have recorded over 9.5 million encounters with illegal immigrants nationwide and an estimated 1.7 million “gotaways.”

This significant increase in illegal immigration has driven the foreign-born population in the United States to a record high of 51.6 million. Critics argue that the surge is primarily driven by mass illegal immigration, further straining the country’s resources and security.

As Biden continues to implement his immigration policies, the debate over their impact on the rule of law and the nation’s borders remains heated. Rep. Green and other critics are calling for a reassessment of these policies to better manage and control immigration.
