Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley recently gave a speech at the American Enterprise Institute regarding her foreign policy plan against China, which includes revoking China’s permanent normal trade relations until fentanyl stops pouring into the U.S. Haley’s plan caught China’s attention.
“Pushing American companies to leave China runs counter to economic laws, and will ultimately harm everyone’s interests,” Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC, said in a statement to Reuters.
“Only those who draw attention by smearing and blame-shifting in the election campaign will end up on the ash heap of history,” Pengyu added while reiterating one of Haley’s comments, “If we rally now, the Chinese Communist Party will eventually end up on the ash heap of history.”

Haley recently fired back at Pengyu’s remarks, telling Reuters that relations between the U.S. and China would be better “If the Chinese Communists stopped sending fentanyl across our border, robbing our businesses, spying on us, and militarily threatening our friends.”
Haley centered her remarks on the fentanyl crisis in the U.S., with more than 70,000 Americans dying because of the drug in 2021 and over 80,000 in 2022.
Haley said that if elected president, she would push Congress to revoke normal trade relations with China until fentanyl stops pouring into the U.S. She noted that the chemicals cartels use to create fentanyl are from China.
“If China wants to start normal trade again, it will stop killing Americans,” Haley said.
According to Reuters, Haley’s policy plan drew the attention of the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C.
At the core of Haley’s plan is the prevention of Chinese buyers continuing to purchase American land. Haley said, “The line between Chinese investors and the Chinese Communist Party is exceptionally thin.”
Haley also envisions ending the exportation of “sensitive technology to China.” She advocated banning American investment in countries supporting the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and preventing China from purchasing American companies working with “advanced technologies.”
Haley is currently trailing in the GOP presidential primary, with just 3% of Republicans planning on voting for her, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released in June 2023.
