Neiman Marcus Faces Backlash After Removing ‘Christmas’ From Holiday Catalog

Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus has renamed its iconic Christmas catalog, now referring to it as “The Holiday Book.” The move, announced in a recent press release, is being criticized as yet another attack on Christmas and Christian traditions. The company claimed the change was made for “inclusion,” but many see it as a departure from the true meaning of the holiday.

The spokesperson for Neiman Marcus explained that the new name was meant to make all customers feel welcome, regardless of their backgrounds. Still, the catalog’s shift away from Christmas has raised concerns among Christians who believe it’s part of a broader effort to downplay their faith. The catalog continues to offer its usual range of luxury items, but the absence of the word “Christmas” has not gone unnoticed.

Chief Brand Officer Nabil Aliffi described the campaign as a chance to engage shoppers in a fantasy-inspired experience, drawing from the company’s historical roots. However, for many, the decision seems more like an attempt to erase the Christian essence of the holiday and replace it with a generic celebration.

Employees at the Dallas headquarters also criticized the move. One employee told the New York Post that CEO Geoffroy van Raemdonck’s emphasis on diversity initiatives has overshadowed the need for business growth. Another worker noted that they only learned about the change through a news article, calling the decision a personal choice by the executive team rather than a strategic move.

Christians who feel overlooked by such changes may choose to spend their money elsewhere. If companies like Neiman Marcus continue to stray from Christmas traditions, they could see a decline in loyal customers who prioritize their values.
