MTG Stands By ‘National Divorce’ Comments In Hannity Interview

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) stood by her comments suggesting America is in need of a “national divorce” in an interview with Fox News, Townhall reports.

During a visit on “Hannity,” Greene clarified that she does not want civil war, but suggested a national divorce is “becoming a necessary reality” due to the disdain for right-wing values she and other conservatives have dealt with from Democrats and a bloated federal government.

In a tweet highlighting the interview, Taylor Greene wrote, “National divorce is not civil war, but becoming a necessary reality because of our irreconcilable differences.”

“The federal government is a monster and has become a weapon of the left against the right,” the Georgia conservative wrote.

Taylor Greene faced harsh backlash for her original President’s Day tweet calling for a national divorce.

“We need a national divorce,” Greene tweeted last week.

“From the sick and disgusting woke culture issues shoved down our throats to the Democrats’ traitorous America Last politics, we are done.”

In her visit with Sean Hannity, Taylor Greene expanded upon her thoughts, explaining that her opinion on a national divorce is shared by many of her peers, noting that “everyone” she speaks to is “tired of being bullied” by “the Left.”

“Everyone I talked to is sick and tired of being bullied by the Left and disrespected by the Left,” Greene said. “Our idea, our policies, our ways of life have become so far apart that’s coming to that point, the last thing I ever want to see in America is a civil war. No one wants that. At least everyone that I know would never want that. It’s going in that direction, we have to do something about it.”

The firebrand conservative also supported the idea of a national divorce in a 2021 response to a tweet calling for discrimination against red-state transplants from blue bastions such as New York and California.

“All possible in a National Divorce scenario,” Greene tweeted in December 2021.

“After Democrat voters and big donors ruin a state like California, you would think it wise to stop them from doing it to another great state like Florida. Brainwashed people that move from C.A. and N.Y. really need a cooling off period.”
