Milley Loses Security Clearance And Protection As Pentagon Moves Against Leaks

The Pentagon has revoked retired Gen. Mark Milley’s security clearance and removed his personal security detail, cutting him off from classified military information. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, acting swiftly under President Donald Trump’s administration, ordered the immediate action against Milley, citing national security concerns.

Milley, who had been accused of undermining military leadership and violating the chain of command, had retained access to sensitive information under the previous administration. That access has now been eliminated, ensuring he no longer poses a risk of intelligence leaks.

In addition to stripping his clearance, Hegseth has directed an Inspector General investigation into Milley’s record, with the possibility of reducing his rank in retirement. The probe will determine whether his actions warrant further disciplinary measures, including the rare step of removing a star.

The Pentagon is also erasing Milley’s presence from its halls. His first official portrait was taken down on Inauguration Day, and the second, which hangs in the Army’s Marshall Corridor, is now set to be removed. With both portraits gone, Milley will no longer be visually honored within the Department of Defense.

Milley’s security detail, which had been assigned due to threats from Iran, is also being revoked. This move signals a return to strict military discipline under the Trump administration, where figures accused of subverting the chain of command will face consequences.

Although Milley received a preemptive pardon from Biden, this does not protect him from further administrative actions. With his clearance revoked, an investigation underway, and his official presence removed from the Pentagon, his era of influence within the military has come to an end.
