Illegal Crossings Surge At Northern Border, Exceed 17-Year Record Under Biden-Harris

Illegal crossings at the U.S.-Canada border have surged to unprecedented levels under the Biden-Harris administration, with the Swanton Sector reporting nearly 20,000 apprehensions in fiscal year 2024. This sector, which covers the northern border areas of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire, has not seen this level of illegal immigration in over 17 years, raising concerns about national security and immigration enforcement.

Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia announced that those detained in the Swanton Sector hail from 97 different countries, illustrating the global nature of the crisis. The 2024 fiscal year marks a significant spike in illegal crossings, far surpassing the 6,925 apprehensions in 2023 and the 1,065 recorded in 2022.

The sharp increase in illegal crossings comes amid criticism of the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of border security. Many argue that the administration’s lenient approach has encouraged illegal immigration, leading to a surge not only at the southern border but now at the northern border as well. Under President Donald Trump, crossings from Canada were much lower, rarely exceeding 1,000 in any fiscal year.

Despite efforts by the Department of Homeland Security to streamline the asylum process for those entering from Canada, the number of crossings continues to rise. This has prompted calls for the administration to strengthen border security and reconsider its current immigration policies.

As the U.S. grapples with record-breaking illegal immigration on both borders, the pressure to address the growing crisis is intensifying, with many demanding swift action to secure the nation’s borders and restore order.
