Top House Energy and Commerce Committee Republicans are seeking information from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) about a Biden administration program that awarded billions of dollars to organizations with ties to the Democratic Party.
Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Buddy Carter (R-GA) and H. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) sent a letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan on Monday requesting documents related to the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF).
The GGRF, created by the Inflation Reduction Act, distributed billions to several organizations whose senior leaders have worked for Democratic administrations or have connections to the party and its allies. The lawmakers expressed concerns that the EPA could use these large awards to subsidize favored organizations and cited examples of politically-connected individuals on the boards of recipient groups.
They requested details about the “nearly two dozen targeted stakeholder meetings” the EPA held while designing the $27 billion program and asked Regan to comply by May 28.
The EPA has maintained that the selection process was rigorous and unaffected by political factors.
The letter comes as House Republicans are considering H.R. 1023 the Cutting Green Corruption and Taxes Act to repeal and rescind the GGRF which they argue is a slush fund ripe for waste fraud and abuse.
