GOP Lawmakers Demand FBI Probe Into Cheney’s Alleged Tampering

House Republicans are demanding an FBI investigation into anti-Trump conservative pariah Liz Cheney, accusing her of tampering with a witness during the January 6 Committee’s proceedings. The accusations follow a damning report from Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), which outlines multiple instances of alleged misconduct.

Loudermilk’s report accuses Cheney of secretly communicating with Cassidy Hutchinson, a key witness, without involving Hutchinson’s attorney. This action, the report states, likely violates federal witness tampering laws and goes beyond the protections afforded by the Speech and Debate clause.

The report further alleges that the January 6 Committee failed to preserve key evidence, withholding materials that could have exonerated President Donald Trump. Loudermilk claims this deliberate omission undermines the integrity of the committee’s final report.

Hutchinson’s testimony, which received significant attention during the hearings, is now under scrutiny. The report asserts that her most shocking claims were unsupported by evidence, with the committee promoting unsubstantiated allegations.

Cheney has publicly denied wrongdoing, stating she should not face legal consequences. Critics argue her comments suggest an attempt to preempt the growing calls for accountability.

Republicans are also calling attention to possible coordination between the January 6 Committee and Special Counsel Jack Smith. They argue the committee’s actions were politically driven and demand a thorough investigation into Cheney’s conduct.
