Germany Cracks Down On Drone Threats While Biden Administration Remains Silent

Germany is taking decisive action to counter the growing threat of unidentified drones over its military sites, allowing its armed forces to shoot down drones that endanger critical infrastructure. The Biden administration has yet to take similar steps despite experiencing drone activity over US bases.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser introduced legislation granting the military the power to engage drones that could harm people or key installations. This proposal aims to close security gaps amid rising concerns about espionage and sabotage.

Recent drone activity in Germany has intensified these concerns. Ten drones were spotted over Manching Air Base, with further incidents near Neuburg an der Donau and the US Ramstein Air Base. Officials suspect these drones may be used for spying, potentially tied to Russian interests.

Meanwhile, US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas dismissed the idea of neutralizing drones over American military facilities in December, claiming it was “dangerous.” Critics argue this passive stance leaves US military sites exposed to serious security risks.

Russia’s aggressive behavior has raised alarms across Europe. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that Russia planned “air terror” attacks against airlines. Intelligence agencies also believe Russia’s GRU has been involved in sabotage against infrastructure in several European countries.

Germany’s aggressive response underscores the growing security divide among Western allies. As Germany prioritizes military safety, the Biden administration’s inaction sparks concern about protecting US forces from potential threats.
