Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has directed her former top prosecutor and ex-lover, Nathan Wade, to avoid cooperating with a House Judiciary Committee investigation into alleged misconduct related to the Trump election interference case. Wade is set to testify before the committee but has been advised by Willis to invoke legal protections.
Willis wrote to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), explaining her concerns that Wade’s testimony might expose confidential information. She emphasized that her office is asserting legal privileges to prevent this from happening. Wade had been the lead prosecutor on the Trump case, which has faced significant legal obstacles.
The House Judiciary Committee launched an investigation into Willis earlier this year, questioning whether she improperly used more than $14.6 million in Department of Justice funds to prosecute Trump. The timing of the grants, from 2020 to 2023, has raised concerns about potential political motivations.
Wade resigned from his position in March after a judge ruled that his relationship with Willis, while not creating a direct conflict, gave the appearance of impropriety. The relationship has drawn scrutiny, especially in light of the thousands of phone calls exchanged between the two.
Trump’s legal team has maintained that the charges against him are part of a politically motivated effort to block his 2024 campaign. The House investigation is ongoing as Willis continues to defend her office’s actions.
