Elon Musk’s DOGE Agents Intensify Efforts To Cut Government Waste At IRS

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has begun an aggressive campaign targeting wasteful spending within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and other federal agencies. Backed by President-elect Donald Trump, DOGE aims to dramatically cut government waste and streamline operations across Washington.

Launched as a privately funded watchdog group, DOGE was designed to root out inefficiencies in federal agencies. Spearheaded by Musk and biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, the organization has rapidly grown in influence, raising concerns about its close ties to Trump’s transition team.

Currently, 50 DOGE agents are stationed at SpaceX’s Washington, D.C., office, actively investigating spending and redundancies within the IRS, Treasury Department, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs. Musk’s plan includes expanding the team to 100 agents by Trump’s inauguration, signaling the scale and urgency of their mission.

Musk has publicly stated his goal of slashing up to $2 trillion in government spending. However, he recently admitted that even cutting $1 trillion would mark a significant victory. “If we try for $2 trillion, we’ve got a good shot at getting $1 [trillion],” Musk said, underscoring his commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Despite DOGE’s growing role, critics have voiced concerns about a privately funded group influencing federal policy. Some argue that DOGE’s rapid expansion could blur the lines between private interests and public governance. However, supporters see DOGE as a much-needed disruptor poised to challenge Washington’s culture of waste.

As DOGE ramps up operations, federal agencies are bracing for major budget cuts and structural changes. Musk’s swift action, coupled with Trump’s backing, signals that bold reforms are coming. DOGE is set to play a pivotal role in reducing government spending and holding Washington accountable for its financial mismanagement.
