Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and owner of X, has warned that Vice President Kamala Harris will likely take legal action against his companies if she wins the 2024 presidential election. In a two-hour interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Musk claimed that a Harris administration would try to “shut down” X by any means necessary, including legal battles.
“They won’t let X continue in its current form,” Musk said, responding to Carlson’s question about the platform’s future under a Harris presidency. Musk argued that the legal system, which he called “lawfare,” would be weaponized against him and his companies. He pointed out that the Biden administration has already targeted his businesses, including SpaceX, for not hiring asylum seekers, which violates national security regulations related to arms technology.
Musk expressed concern that Harris would escalate this pressure if she takes office. He noted that legal actions against his companies began after he purchased X (formerly Twitter) in 2022, with SpaceX and Tesla both facing lawsuits from federal agencies.
The Department of Justice sued SpaceX in 2023, accusing it of discouraging asylum seekers and refugees from applying for jobs, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a separate suit against Tesla, alleging racial discrimination.
Musk, a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, believes that his backing of conservative causes could make him a target for further legal challenges under a Harris administration. He has contributed to Republican campaigns and spoke at a rally for Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, where an assassination attempt on the former president took place.
