Convicted Fraudster Leading Voter Registration Group Offering Swift Tickets

A voter registration group offering Taylor Swift concert tickets in a contest aimed at boosting turnout is led by Tate Hausman, a political operative convicted of voter fraud in 2009. Civic Innovation Works, the nonprofit behind the campaign, is working in battleground states to increase Democratic voter turnout, though it does not explicitly claim a party affiliation.

Hausman’s criminal history dates back to the 2008 presidential election when he illegally claimed residency in Ohio to vote for Barack Obama. He was fined and given probation for his actions, but that hasn’t stopped him from remaining active in politics. Currently, he holds a position in the administration of New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has been indicted on unrelated charges.

The Taylor Swift ticket giveaway is part of Civic Innovation Works’ effort to get younger voters to the polls. Participants must provide personal information and verify their voter registration status. The contest, which runs through October 21, is being promoted in states like North Carolina and Georgia—key battlegrounds for the 2024 election.

Civic Innovation Works has faced controversy before. In 2020, the group funded ads attacking Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, which were later criticized as misleading by watchdog groups. The organization’s ties to Democratic causes and Hausman’s involvement raise concerns about its credibility.

Although Hausman hasn’t been connected to Mayor Adams’ legal troubles, his past conviction has drawn attention to Civic Innovation Works and its questionable tactics.
