Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has renewed his demand for Washington, D.C., officials and Attorney General Merrick Garland to preserve the remains of five aborted babies, known as the “DC Five,” as part of ongoing investigations. The remains were discovered in 2022 at the Washington Surgi-Clinic, an abortion facility run by Cesare Santangelo, and pro-life advocates believe the babies may have been aborted in violation of federal law.
In a letter addressed to Garland, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith, Roy expressed frustration with the lack of action and transparency. He criticized the investigation as “lackluster” and questioned whether authorities were truly committed to determining whether the babies’ deaths violated the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act or the Born-Alive Infant Protection Act.
The Texas congressman first raised concerns in February, asking D.C. officials to confirm that the remains would not be destroyed. However, Roy has not received a response. He argues that destroying the remains would undermine any future congressional investigations into potential violations of federal law.
“These children deserve justice,” Roy wrote, stressing the importance of preserving the remains as evidence. He warned that without this evidence, it would be difficult to hold anyone accountable for possible violations of federal abortion laws.
Roy’s letter sets a deadline of October 24 for Garland and D.C. officials to confirm whether they will preserve the remains. Pro-life groups continue to push for a thorough investigation, and Roy remains determined to seek justice for the five babies.
