Biden Contemplates Pardons For Cheney And Fauci As Trump Era Begins

President Joe Biden has signaled he may issue preemptive pardons for individuals expected to face legal challenges under President-elect Donald Trump. Among those reportedly under consideration are Liz Cheney and Anthony Fauci, both of whom have drawn scrutiny from Trump and his allies.

Biden revealed during an interview that he cautioned Trump against pursuing politically motivated investigations. “I made it clear that there was no need…to settle scores,” Biden said. Trump reportedly listened but offered no assurances.

Cheney, a member of the January 6 committee, has been accused of federal law violations, including witness tampering. Fauci, who oversaw pandemic responses, has also become a target for criticism from Republican leaders.

Trump’s appointments to key roles, including Pam Bondi as attorney general and Kash Patel as FBI director, signal his intent to pursue aggressive legal actions. Patel has outlined plans to restructure the FBI, suggesting significant changes to its leadership and operations.

Biden’s consideration of preemptive pardons comes after his decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden. The December pardon, which addressed tax and firearms charges, has drawn criticism from Republicans who say it undermines the legal process.

Trump appeared unfazed by the potential pardons, stating, “Biden can give them a pardon if he wants to. And maybe he should.”
