Behar Says Tim Scott And Clarence Thomas Don’t Understand What It Means To Be Black

During a segment on the left-wing talk show “The View” discussing Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) decision to enter the 2024 presidential race, co-host Joy Behar claimed that Black Republicans don’t understand what it means to be Black in America.

On May 22, Scott officially announced his campaign for the presidency, putting out several campaign videos on social media.

The left almost immediately jumped to attack the Republican senator, and his skin color appeared to be the main focus of many of their attacks.

During a discussion on Scott’s campaign launch, Behar claimed that he and other Black Republicans don’t know what it means to be Black in America because they refuse to acknowledge so-called “systemic racism” that supposedly suppresses the Black community.

“He’s one of these guys, who, you know, he’s like [Supreme Court Justice] Clarence Thomas, Black Republican, believes in pulling yourself by your bootstraps rather than, to me, understanding the systemic racism that African-Americans face in this country, and other minorities,” Behar claimed.

“He doesn’t get it; neither does Clarence, and that’s why they’re Republicans!” she added, prompting a round of applause and laughter from the audience.

The leftist co-host went on to attack another prominent Republican, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — who recently announced his candidacy for president as well — accusing the governor of not being conservative and calling him “Ron DeFascist.”

Behar then gave a small compliment to Scott, describing him as similar to former President Ronald Reagan and saying that he is less “doom and gloom” than former President Donald Trump.

Scott responded to Behar’s comments in a tweet.

“When a Black conservative who believes in the future of this nation stands up to be counted, they lose their minds. That’s why I’m the candidate the radical Left fears the most,” he wrote.

Scott also responded to similar criticism from Behar’s co-hosts, Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin, during a recent appearance on Fox News.

“We have to ignore the far left by disproving their lies by our actions,” the South Carolina senator said.

“Here’s the funny thing: The host, Sunny, she wants to be judged by the content of her character, not the color of her skin,” he added. “The fact of the matter is America is a story of evolution — a never-told story of evolution in too many of our schools that are indoctrinating our kids instead of educating our kids.”

Scott then pointed out that his life disproves the left’s claims that Black people should have a victim mentality.

“I say, not on my watch. Let’s tell the whole story of America rising,” he added.
