An Asheville, North Carolina, resident expressed his disappointment with the Biden administration’s response to Hurricane Helene during an appearance on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.” Jordan Lanning criticized the federal government’s delayed aid and its prioritization of resources for migrants, leaving many storm survivors feeling abandoned.
Lanning explained that it took five days for federal assistance to reach his community, and President Biden did not personally visit the hardest-hit areas. “It’s disgraceful. They keep saying we the people, but they’re not for us,” Lanning said.
The government’s offer of a one-time $750 payment for essentials has left many feeling let down, as they struggle to rebuild their lives after losing homes and belongings. “They can do more than that,” Lanning said, adding that the amount is not enough to cover the losses people have suffered.
The sense of betrayal is compounded by the government’s spending on migrants, which Lanning believes should be directed toward helping American citizens affected by the storm. “I feel betrayed,” he said, adding that the administration seems to prioritize others over its own people.
Hurricane Helene has claimed more than 130 lives and left nearly 600 people missing, with communities across the Southeast struggling to recover. Survivors are calling for more direct and substantial aid from the federal government to help them rebuild their lives.
