Alleged CCP Operative Seen Meeting New York Democrats

An alleged Chinese Communist Party (CCP) operative arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was pictured meeting several New York Democrats at wealthy diners and campaign events.

According to Chinese news reports, Lu Jianwang, whom the FBI arrested for conspiring to act as an agent of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), was pictured with New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) while attending a fundraiser for Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY). Jianwang allegedly operated a police station in New York on behalf of the Chinese government.

The FBI charged Jianwang with “obstructing justice by destroying evidence of [his] communications with a [Ministry of Public Security] official.”

Jianwang was connected to Chinese law enforcement and enlisted to help China with “repressive activities” in the U.S. beginning in 2015, including persecuting Chinese citizens, according to prosecutors.

“The PRC’s actions go far beyond the bounds of acceptable nation-state conduct. We will resolutely defend the freedoms of all those living in our country from the threat of authoritarian repression,” said an assistant attorney general, Matthew Olsen, from the Justice Department’s National Security Division, BBC News reported.

Chinese officials requested him to participate in protesting Falun Gong, a religious movement subject to prosecution by the CPP.

“This prosecution reveals the Chinese government’s flagrant violation of our nation’s sovereignty by establishing a secret police station in the middle of New York City,” U.S. Attorney Breon Peace said, adding that the police station holds no place in New York City or the U.S.

Peace continued by alleging Jianwang got directed to do China’s bidding by locating Chinese dissidents living in America.

Several photos taken at New York City events reveal that Jianwang met with Meng, Adams, and Schumer during events from 2022-2023.

On April 24, 2022, Jianwang participated in a fundraiser for Meng’s congressional campaign in Flushing, New York.

In November 2022, FBI Director Christopher Wray said his agency was monitoring reports of Chinese police stations, calling them a “real problem.”

“To me, it is outrageous to think that the Chinese police would attempt to set up shop, you know, in New York, let’s say, without proper coordination,” Wray said. “It violates sovereignty and circumvents standard judicial and law enforcement cooperation processes.”
