ABC Accused Of Bias Favoring Harris In Trump Debate, Complaints Filed With FCC, FEC

Complaints have been filed against ABC with the FCC and FEC following a September debate between President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The Center for American Rights claims that ABC’s moderators showed favoritism toward Harris by repeatedly fact-checking Trump while giving Harris a pass on critical issues.

The FCC complaint accuses ABC of failing to meet its public responsibility to present an impartial debate. Critics argue that the moderators asked questions designed to scrutinize Trump while avoiding topics that could have been damaging to Harris, such as President Biden’s health or the assassination attempt on Trump.

Daniel Suhr, an attorney representing the Center, stated that ABC crossed the line into political promotion by selectively targeting Trump with critical questions. He noted that Harris was allowed to make several untrue statements without any pushback from the moderators, which misled viewers.

The Center also filed a complaint with the FEC, alleging that ABC’s coverage of the debate amounted to an illegal in-kind donation to Harris’ campaign. If ABC had charged for the airtime, it would have been valued at millions, making it an unreported campaign contribution.

ABC has yet to respond to these complaints, and both the FCC and FEC are expected to investigate.
