10-Year-Old Recovering After Saving Sister During Philadelphia Plane Crash

Trey Howard, a 10-year-old boy who shielded his younger sister from the impact of a plane crash, is recovering in a Philadelphia hospital after undergoing emergency brain surgery. His first concern after waking up was whether his sister was safe.

Trey and his family were in their car near Roosevelt Mall when a Learjet 55 crashed just feet away, sending debris flying toward them. His father, Andre Howard Jr., said it sounded like gunfire as metal struck vehicles in the area.

Acting quickly, Trey pulled his sister down, covering her from the impact. Moments later, he was hit in the head by flying wreckage. His father turned to find metal lodged in his son’s skull. A bystander helped slow the bleeding before police rushed Trey to the hospital.

Doctors at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia performed emergency surgery, telling the family his survival was uncertain. But when Trey woke up, his first words were, “Daddy, did I save my sister?” His father assured him that he had.

The crash resulted in seven fatalities, including four crew members, two passengers, and a man in a nearby vehicle. At least 24 other people suffered injuries. Officials are continuing their investigation into the tragedy.

Trey, a devoted Eagles fan, was thrilled to learn he hadn’t missed the Super Bowl. He also received a visit from 76ers player Tyrese Maxey, who praised the boy’s bravery. His recovery is being closely monitored as he regains his strength.
